What we do

Setting new trends in STEM education

As parents of homeschooled students, we can all agree on one thing when it comes to our children’s education. Science is difficult to teach. Oftentimes, we enlist the aid of outside educators to help with this issue. That’s where the teachers at You2STEM.com come in to help. They are here to help you navigate past all the intimidating and often complex educational jargon and deliver you a simple, extremely affordable, and inclusive program designed to bring value and joy to learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or, “STEM”.

You2STEM.com started a few years ago as another company called Brentwood Maker Academy. Students were enrolled in weekly in-person classes that taught concepts within the STEM realm. The program was set in a maker space environment where students actively used various hand tools, software, and design techniques to build various projects. Over time as the program flourished, there was a need to make changes that would ultimately make the program more accessible and inclusive. They realized early on that the program was a valuable addition to the community and that it should address key issues in equability, individual student learning abilities, and socioeconomic factors

How does their program work and keep students actively engaged? The answer is simple. The teachers would present a class of twelve students with a problem. All materials and tools in the classroom would be made available and the students would be given a timeframe to complete. Often 1-2 days. We’ll give you an example. The teachers presented the students with a physics challenge. Take a ping pong ball and make it travel from one side of the room to the other without it touching the ground. With a 2-day time limit, the students were able to work freely, test their designs, and improve them. Everything from slingshots and catapults to cannons were designed and built. If a design didn’t work, it was back to the drawing board. All the while, the science behind the objective was being taught. At the end of the 2nd day, every student had designed and built a project that solved the challenge.

Today, the program has been made available online with the needs of students and parents in mind. It removes the complexity of teaching science at home by teaching students to view their surroundings as a treasure trove of possibility. Each project can be completed using common household items and there’s no need to purchase any expensive kits or supplies. The entire curriculum has been simplified allowing students to build and construct projects in such a way that it opens the door to improvement, inspiration, and creativity. Thus keeping them actively engaged.

For the first time, students with special needs now have a place to learn and enjoy the benefits of STEM education and they have made the program cost-effective by charging an extremely low monthly tuition rate. They also offer age-specific lessons for kindergarten-5th grade levels as well as 6th-12th grade. The best part is that any of the lessons can be explored regardless of grade level. The program is designed with the thought of a student’s scientific understanding and journey in mind. Once a student becomes a member, they are free to explore all of the content and lesson material that is provided. There’s even a specific section dedicated to 3D design. With this program, students can learn at their own pace without feeling left behind and feel a sense of inclusion.

Best wishes from your teacher!
